I am a photo journalistic photographer living in the Denham Springs, Louisiana area. I am previously from New Orleans, lived there, married there 36 years ago, had my children there, and am proud to say that no matter what, I will always call it home. However, I have lived in the Baton Rouge vicinity for the better part of my life and love everything about it except for the traffic! LOL
I think it is true what most photographers say about the profession: It finds you! In my case, I very much believe that. I have always been fascinated with photography and that's one reason why you will see more pictures that I've taken than have been taken of me. I remember very well my first camera, a Brownie! It was obviously a film camera, had flash bulbs and was bulky. I remember taking it to school at the end of the year to take pictures of all of my friends or breaking it out to take pictures when family came to visit. I am happy to say that time has definitely been good to photography in that we now have the ability to not only see our photos immediately, but we can take lots more pictures since we don't have to pay for the development of that film!
I am the keeper of the family photos. This is partly because I took them from my mother and organized them, but being the only one left in the family to take them made it a no-brainer. LOL I have all of the slides that my family took back when I was a baby and old pictures consisting of black and white, Polaroid, and 35mm film. I love everything about what these pictures represent. The growing up that my brother and I did, the birthdays, Christmas', anniversaries, and special events are all part of my heritage and what I want to pass on to my children and grandchildren to remember and know their family.
That's why I take the photo journalistic approach to photography seriously; because it helps tell stories, stories of the birth of a baby and the joy on everyone's faces when they see that child for the first time; special events such as birthdays, Thanksgiving and Christmas are just a few other events we all want to remember with photographs. There is nothing more joyous to me than the engagement of a couple beginning a new life together, their wedding, and of course, the birth of that little one into their family. It is amazing to watch this family grow as their new addition reaches milestones in his/her life. These are memories that we cherish and should be captured for sharing with others for generations to come.
